Designed for R&D applications

Onboard protection mechanisms

As with other imperix power modules, each PEB8024 embeds protection mechanisms, such as over-current/voltage detection, which block the power module in case of hazardous behavior and thus ensure that its capabilities are never exceeded.

Combined with the additional adjustable protections of our programmable controller, imperix power modules are the ultimate solution for safe and efficient converter prototyping in both teaching and research applications.

Mechanical integration

A modular design of power converter prototypes

SiC phase-leg modules can be easily assembled together

When used to build power inverters, three PEB8024 is all it takes to build a three-phase inverter or rectifier. For other topologies, the same modular approach allows building various sorts of topologies..

Typical operating parameters
  • Switching frequency: 1-200kHz.
  • AC grid voltage: 230/400VAC.
  • Power rating (three-phase): 5-15kW.
Typical configurations
  • Isolated DC/DC converters
  • Active filters
  • Advanced grid-connected converters
  • High-performance drives
  • Medium-frequency converters
  • High-speed motor drives
  • etc.

Basic configuration example:

  • 1x B-Box RCP (digital controller)
  • 3x PEB8024 power modules
  • 1x rack-mountable open chassis

Application examples of SiC power modules

Most power converter topologies can be built using elementary phase-legs, which can be considered as the basic building blocks of power electronic systems. Basic use case scenarios built with PEB power modules include single-phase inverters and three-phase inverters, as well as isolated or non-isolated DC/DC converters.

Superior switching performance

PEB8024   VS  previous generation

Thanks to state-of-the-art Silicon Carbide MOSFETs, the PEB8024 power modules enable faster switching frequencies than our previous phase-leg modules, while guaranteeing lower losses. These modules allow building power converters with superior harmonic performance, more compact passives, and thus increased power density.

In addition, the embedded current sensor features a high measurement bandwidth, allowing to precisely sense the output currents, enabling the validation of fast closed-loop control techniques.

For higher current capabilities, engineers are recommended to consider the PEB8046 module, which embeds larger (but then slower) semiconductors.

PEB8024   VS  previous generation

Reduced switching losses

Silicon Carbide modules offer up to 10x lower switching losses when compared to Silicon, even with fast IGBTs such as on the previous PEB8032 modules.

Faster switching frequency

At the module level, PEB8024 are specified as 4x faster than the previous generation, with both superior switching speed and efficiency !

Additional benefits for power electronic research

Our Silicon Carbide modules (SiC) – similarly to our Silicon-based modules – offer an excellent trade-off between ease of use and suitability to multiple and various applications. They are ideally suited for rapid control prototyping applications, where the quick implementation of the power stage is essential.

Versatile

With these building blocks, DC/AC inverters or any converter topology can be built in the blink of an eye. What’s more, power modules can be reused among multiple projects to save time and money.

Easy-to-use

The modules contain everything needed to start working right away (sensors, logic, cooling,…). Combined with the B-Box RCP controller, they form a truly plug-and-play solution.

Powerful

The PEB power converter modules are sufficiently powerful to handle a few kW per phase. This makes them a perfect choice for demanding laboratory applications or pilot /demonstration systems.

Robust

The PEB modules are well protected and can be safely put in the hands of inexperienced engineers. This is ideal for teaching or student projects, or simply for those who enjoy the related peace of mind.

Power module accessories

Rack-mounting equipment

Imperix power electronic building blocks are best assembled within rack-mountable frames or enclosures. This guarantees the highest flexibility, thanks to the modular nature of the power converter modules.

Rack-mountable frame (3U)
PEB modules can be mounted within open rack-mountable frames. As such, modules remain easily accessible and can be easily put in (or taken out) of the chassis.

Rack-mountable enclosure (4U)
Imperix power modules can also be placed within enclosures that make use of 4mm laboratory safety plugs. This guarantees that no dangerous voltage can ever be reached.

Inductors and passive filters (4U)
For those interested to have a first configuration that is fully ready-to-use, imperix offers a standard box with inductors and LC filters. Components have reasonable, but fixed values.
